COVID-19 and the Silver Lining // More Family Time

So … here we are, COVID-19 has our world changing by the minute it seems. Constant scrolling on social media trying to the the LATEST information needed, changes, updates etc. I got myself caught up in it and then when I woke up this morning and it was SNOWING … I thought, what the heck is this … I laid there watching the snowflakes fall, so peaceful and so quiet.

There is meaning here

I told myself but it really was exactly what I needed. I needed peace & calm for my mind. I realized, it’s all going to be ok. We are all constantly asking for more time off, more time with family … and though it may come at a very inopportune time … it is TIME! Remember today that we are all in this together! Not against each other.

Schools are closing, events are being cancelled, there are no sports to watch on TV. Is this what we need!?! I think so. I surely don’t think years from now when we look back, we will be sorry for the extra family time we were “forced” into unless that’s how you want to continue treating it. Unless all you want to do is post un-useful information or continue to blast politicians instead of looking at what is right in front of you and what you have more control over. I think we need to look at this pandemic in a new light in order to keep our sanity and our safety! I am compiling a list of ideas for my own family and I wanted to share with you for inspiration!

  • Online Education: There are a ton on FREE online resources for children, I particularly found THIS blog with a ton of links to get started!

  • Home Education: For this one I plan to incorporate everyday home tasks into broken down learning activities. The key is to keep the educational portion quick and “to-the-point” and then letting the kids loose and see what they do. In our home this will include cooking (from basic recipe books (measurements, reading, planning), Cleaning areas of the home and learning why its important, Strategizing a meal plan with a budget, personal hygiene and why it’s important (not that we don’t do this already but it’s still a good time to maybe deeper dive into some of those conversations we try to avoid about body parts etc), garden prep and the leaning about different plants we want to plant this year, Laundry - oh heck yes … I will be teaching them laundry … LOADS of it … hahah!

  • GET OUTSIDE! We have some really perfect weather coming our way so if camping is an option, CAMP! Make fun day trips to a new park, play frisbee golf, spontaneous trip to the beach (pack your own picnic).

  • Movie parties: Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want tv zombies in my house but I do plan on having a day where we maybe rent/buy a series and we get to turn the theater room into a giant family bed and snack out etc.

  • Phone calls & Facetimes: I plan to have my kids calling friends & family every day and continuing connection with people on a personal way. This will help everyone’s soul!

  • Dance parties - Heyyyy, if you watch my IG stories you already know we do this on the DAILY! I like to start the day with some upbeat music and Renlee leads the way with her incredibly on-beat moves!

I will also continue to run business as usual. You see, family portraits are PERFECT during this time … the weather is good and it the perfect time to capture your unique adventures so in years from now when people ask what you did during this pandemic, you can say “we lived! Here’s proof”.

I’m currently offering 50% off portraits through April! (must be booked and shot within this timeframe).

So what adventures will YOU go on!? Check out this sweet little family enjoying a day in a special forest they love to visit!
